In East Baton Rouge Parish, fire officials are investigating a fire that happened at a local apartment complex.  And they tell us they do suspect arson. Baton Rouge Fire officials say they got the call around 10 this morning outside an empty apartment complex located at 11457 Stan Avenue.  Firefighters believe someone intentionally set fire to the outside of the building and say it spread quickly up the wall into the attic where it did extensive damage. Firefighters were able to contain the fire, keeping ot from spreading to nearby buildings.

In Lafayette Parish, a memorial celebration for Mickey Shunick is scheduled for Saturday, September 29th. The event will take place at the Parc International.  There will be live music and a public bike ride.  Shunick went missing back in May.
Last month, Brandon Lavergne confessed to police he murdered Shunick and led investigators to her body.  For more information on the event, visit our website nbc33tv dot com.

In Assumption Parish, there is some good news coming out of Bayou Corne this week.  It appears there are no detectable concentrations of natural gas or other chemicals in the atmosphere as a result of that sinkhole and those bubbles we’ve heard so much about lately.  That's according to an aerial survey done last week.  It was released yesterday by Louisiana Commissioner of Conservation James Welsh and Louisiana DEQ Secretary Peggy Hatch.  The Environmental Protection Agency’s “ASPECT” airplane was used to conduct the survey on Saturday.
