BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — Lafayette - The city of Lafayette has been voted the tastiest town in the south by Southern Living Magazine readers. Nearly 520 thousand people voted in the contest with nearly 200 thousand votes going to Lafayette. They're followed by Louisville and New Orleans. Southern Living's publisher and editor visited Lafayette Thursday to make the announcement. The tastiest town issue of the magazine will hit newsstands on Friday of next week.
Also out of Lafayette parish - In the small town of Carencro, Red Cross volunteers are working to help flood victims. We're told about 30 homes are without running water because of the flooding, and they're getting some assistance from Red Cross. Officials say they've seen some of the water go down, but they're still having issues.
Calcasieu - Sheriff's deputies arrested two men for burglarizing homes. We're told the homeowner saw these guys at her house, and once they saw her, they took off in a truck. Detectives caught up with Dakota Gilbert and Devin Whitaker and say, they had a flat screen tv and burglary tools in the truck. Detectives also say they found 7 thousand dollars worth of stolen property at Whitaker’s house. Both men face multiple charges.
