The London Olympics are almost here and the city of London is about to make history.

It's about to be the first city to host the Olympics three times.

In 1908, the city hosted its first Olympic Games. Many of the events were held in White City Stadium, which had a capacity of 130,000. It was completed in just 10 months and featured a cinder athletes track and an open-air swimming pool.

Then, in 1948, the city hosted it's second games. The city was recovering from the destruction of WWII; participating countries were asked to bring their own food and equipment.

You can catch the 2012 London Summer Olympics on NBC33. Opening ceremonies begin on July 27.
