Report on Oil Sightings throughout Coastal Louisiana

BATON ROUGE (June 7, 2010) - The below is a situational awareness report of oil impacted areas led by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Army National Guard and local governments.

Note: The information in this report has been forwarded to the federal incident command post in Houma, which is composed of U.S. Coast Guard and BP officials. This report consists of newly impacted areas, and does not serve as a comprehensive listing of impacted areas.

Oil Sightings Report June 7, 2010

Plaquemines:

Sighting: Orange oil extending into the marsh on both sides of Bayou Wilkinson with approximately 100 x 400 yard sheen 1.75 miles north of the bayou's southern mouth.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Orange tar mats approximately two feet by two feet every 100 yards with rainbow sheen in Bay Baptiste 0.25 miles north east of Big Island.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Steady line of brown tar moving north located five to six miles south of Bastian Island.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Orange, pancake-sized tar patties located in Bastian Bay two miles west/ south west of Bayou Dulac.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Heavy concentration of tar balls and tar mats extending one mile across the north east corner of Bay Baptiste intruding two feet into the marsh.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Patch of grey sheen 100 x 300 yards two miles southwest of Manilla in Bayou Defond.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Heavy black oil in Four Bayou Pass.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Oil on ground south of Bay Long extending east of location.
Date: 5 June 10

Sighting: Tar balls and gray sheen near the center of Cat Bay.
Date: 5 June 10

Sighting: Heavy oil near mouth of Wilkinson Bay off of Barataria Bay.
Date: 5 June 10

Jefferson Parish:

Sighting: Oil sheen filled with 10 foot wide tar balls extending from 50 yards off of the southwest tip of Grand Isle south into the gulf.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Heavy oil at Barataria Pass near Fort Livingston
Date: 5 June 10

Lafourche Parish:

Sighting: Patch of grey sheen 50 x 200 yards in Grand Bayou, 1.5 miles northwest of Saint Joseph Bay.
Date: 7 June 10

Sighting: Light sheen in Bay Des Ilettes 1.5 miles W of Mendicant Island.
Date: 5 June 10
