BAKER, La (NBC33) -- Have you ever wondered what its like to be mayor? Well, one Zachary High school student spent the day finding out.

Senior Shelby Clayton got to play mayor for a day, thanks to a program at her high school. It's called Windows to the World, and it allows students to find a mentor in a profession they might be interested in. For Clayton, it's politics. So, she spent the day hanging out with Baker mayor, Harold Rideau.

Clayton says being mayor is harder than it looks. "Being mayor is a lot more than just showing your face and signing off on papers. It's actually like a real job," says Clayton. "You're personally responsible for pretty much everything in the city."

Clayton says after spending some time with the mayor, she hopes that politics are in her future. She plans to go to LSU or the University of Louisiana - Lafayette after she graduates from high school.
