The Louisiana World Peace Day Committee teamed up with the Legislative Youth Advisory Council to kick off world peace day at the state capitol.

The goal inspire to people to make the choice to find peace within them selves and the community.

"We have to understand that especially when young people feel small and insignificant like they don't make a difference in the world that you can make a difference, and it starts with you the individual finding your own inner peace," Patrick Flanigan, Legislative Youth Advisory Council president, said.

Student speakers gave the crowd a glimpse of what world peace means to them.

"Peace is not something that we have to live here a long time to understand. It is something that is engrained in all of us," Flanigan said.

The event also featured music, a choir performance, and student artwork.

"You learn exactly what everyone has an understanding of world peace how they see it. You get the feeling and the vulnerability that everyone has," Morgan Me'Lyn Grant, high school student from New Orleans, said.

Grant hopes the statements given by the students on the topic of peace will inspire the community to promote peace and end violence here in Louisiana and a broad.

"The younger you are the less censored you are. You don't have the weigh of the world forced down on you so they tell you what you should and shouldn't say," Grant, said. "To be in high school and to be able to understand world peace it means a lot, because then other people should listen and understand just how the youth think because then we become the next adults. "

Students from across Louisiana also put together a special art show case for world peace day called "Student Artists for Peace." You can check it out in memorial hall at the state capitol through the end of October.
