In celebration of Earth Month, the Whole Foods Market Louisiana stores are hosting a t-shirt recycling drive through April 30 for The African InKNITiative, a non-profit organization that benefits Ugandan women in refugee camps.

The African InKNITiative repurposes t-shirts into scarves, which were featured in the Whole Foods Market stores during the 2011 holidays.

In addition, the stores will collect new and gently used sports equipment for the Son of Saint Foundation’s REPLAY program at the Arabella and Veterans locations and Greater Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation at the Baton Rouge store. The desired equipment includes:

Football: footballs, helmets (new only), shoulder pads, tugs, cleats (new or slightly worn), football gloves

Fishing: poles, fishing boxes, bait

Golf: golf bags, clubs, balls

Hockey: sticks, pucks, pads

Soccer: balls, cleats (new only), shin guards, goalie gloves, goal nets

Tennis: racquets, balls (new only), ball hoppers, grips (new) and over grips, new strings

Volleyball: balls, knee and elbow guards

Coaching supplies: clipboards, air pumps and needles, stop watches, training cones, whistles, first-aid kits, referee uniforms.
