PRAIRIEVILLE, La (NBC33) — Michele Helton's yard was under water Wednesday afternoon.
"It was like I was surrounded by a lake and I was on a house boat," she laughs.
What started out as a drizzle ended with a bang. "All of the thunder and lightening! I couldn't even see next door it was so bad."
Normally, during wet weather, Helton's yard stays relatively dry, but Wednesday night's storms were out of the ordinary.
"The windows started leaking. Everything was leaking! I'm thinking I'm not going to be able to get out of here."
Helton estimates she had about five inches of water in her yard by the time the storms were over. Now, most of the water is gone, leaving lots of mud and mosquitos in it's place.
Still, she says the little flooding doesn't bother her. She's been dealing with rainy weather her whole life. "I'm from New Jersey," she says. "They call that the rain bucket of the country. It does seem like everywhere I've lived I've been inside a bowl, though."
