Louisiana's heroes gather at the Old State Capitol today to bring back The Spirit of '45.
It's their way to encourage patriotism in the United States.

Veterans and their families celebrated by remembering the wave of patriotism that swept the nation, when World War II ended 66 years ago this month.

One marine says this event is another way of saying thank you.

“Its freedom … we can walk at night, we can go driving at night, (and) we don't have to worry about the terrorists,” said Earl Flatt of the Marine Corps League. “We're here and we're free because of those men and women that died for us.”

The Spirit of '45 event was put on by the USS Kidd's Veterans' Memorial and Museum.
