Veterans gathered at the old state capital for the annual USS KidD Veterans Day Ceremony.

Dozens of veterans listened to the sounds of war era music sung by the Baton Rouge Music Club Chorus.

The veterans took time to remember those who didn't come home and honor those who did return.

Veterans say many people are to busy and forget to stop and thank veterans for their service, but they say events like Saturday's help show they are loved.

"I am a veteran and I do appreciate the respect and honor that's given," said veteran Ben Strong. "We give a lot when we go overseas and fight these wars or whatever, so it means very much to hear someone say thank you. That's what this was all about. "

Veteran Raymond Bernucho says more needs to be done to help teach younger generations about the sacrifice many veterans went through.

"Come to functions like this. Get involved with helping out the veterans or active duty guard and reserve," said Bernucho.

After the ceremony veterans and their families were treated to lunch.
