Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Richard Haywood was supported by McKinley High Students gathered in the rain this afternoon at a rally.
Haywood was arrested last week, and was then fired from McKinley High for punching a student in the face. Today, other students gathered to support one of their favorite teachers.
Sarah Corie is the student responsible for organizing the rally, and she says Haywood shouldn't be judged by that one incident alone.
"We feel that how he was treated was not fair, but we just really wanted to show our love and support for Mr. Haywood, let him know that we really miss him, and we really think it's sad and ridiculous that he left under these circumstances," Corie told NBC33 News.
Many students who saw the rally across the street from the school felt compelled to join in and support Haywood.
