Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The summer heat is here to stay, and local outreach organizations are doing their part to help those in need.
St. Vincent de Paul says they've been overwhelmed by the amount of people who've come to them to escape the brutal heat to get cold drinks and a meal.
They encourage all who may be in tough times to stop by their food kitchen and make sure they get what they need to withstand the extreme temperatures.
The organization says a record amount of people were served last year, and this year is starting off with even more coming through their doors.
"Last year was a record 223,624 meals, this year 15% ahead of last year's meal count," stated Michael Acaldo with St. Vincent de Paul.
St. Vincent de Paul says their numbers always spike during the summer and winter months. They also look forward to donations to help their mission of providing for those in need.
