Time is up for now former Port Allen mayor Demetric "Deedy" Slaughter. Slaughter did not file paperwork contesting a recall election against her according to the West Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court. She had until 4:30 Monday evening to contest the results. Now She's out of the job. Port Allen Chief Financial Officer Audrey McCain and Chief Administrative Officer Adrian Genre said Slaughter never came to city hall on Monday.

"For us it would be logistically easier if there had been some kind of communication of here is what the plan is here is the information you're looking for and here is where we are on this file," McCain said. "We weren't told as far as the status of any of the things that she was working on."

"We want this transitions to be a smooth and as seamless as possible, but the issue is we are in uncharted waters we've never faced this situation," Genre said.

They say there are a lot of questions that still need to be answered.

Genre stated: "There is a lot of uncertainty. We have a lot of city employees that are just talking amongst themselves. They are asking Audrey. They are asking myself just what the general state of affairs is. Who is in charge. What's going to happen when."

McCain said there is a lot of work that needs to be done.

"As far as the details and logistics of things that need to be corrected that we will need to do Adrian and I both will need to do a lot of fixing of things," McCain said. "It's more procedural it's the fixing of the day to day operations of the city, and the accounting from the auditing stand point of the internal controls that need to put back in place."

"We want to make sure that things happen and that things get done on a day to day basis with some sense of direction. We really haven't had that in a really good while," Genre said.

Voters chose to recall the slaughter after months of controversy.

The city council has 20 days to pick an interim mayor to do the job until an election can be held to fill the position. If the council can't decide who to pick the governor will have to make that call.

NBC33 News reached out to Deedy Slaughter for comment. She did not return our calls.
