Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Hundreds of people are heading to the mall to return those not so perfect gifts, but many people hitting the malls today had other agendas.
"I'm shopping with my mom and we’re returning some polo shirts from Dillards and getting some new ones - better sizes," stated shopper Chelsea Bosley, “but I love the sales too - a lot of sales."
"These sales are much better than Black Friday, so it’s really better to shop," said mall-goer Cassie Jumonville.
Better than Black Friday?
With every store trying to clear merchandise out before the new year, people are trying to take advantage of those discounts - up to 70 or 80 percent off. Some people are even cheating the system to save a few bucks.
"I've seen a lot of people bring back stuff that they had bought and then buy it back because it's cheaper now - 70 percent off today (when it was) 50 percent off on Black Friday so the lines are horrendous,” said Jumonville.
Some shoppers say that after-Christmas sales are even better for them this year because they don't even have to use their own money.
“I’ve gotten eight different gift cards to a bunch of places,” stated shopper Morgan Vannorden. “It's way better to get gift card so you don't have to use your money to get new stuff."
One of the biggest sellers this year that didn't even make the top ten last year was shoes.
This holiday season has actually been worse than previous years for retailers, so tonight, many retailers are hoping these after-Christmas sales will help bring them back into the black.
