MORGAN CITY,LA (NBC33) — Morgan City is a community in mourning. Law enforcement officers, family, and friends of Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch gathered together Thursday to say goodbye to their beloved chief.
"He had a huge heart. If I had to describe him in one word it would be loyal," Mickey Fabre, Principal of Morgan City High School and Crouch family friend, said. "Once he was your friend he was your friend for life. He would defend you and protect you just like a police officer would."
Those who knew Chief Crouch said he was a loving family man and a dedicated police officer.
"So, he says I have my dream lady, I have my dream job, I have my dream family, so he had everything. He was well respected in this community and loved," Fabre said.
"He was a very Christian man a very loving father," Police Chief Patrick Lasalle, Patterson Police Department, said. "No matter when you called him it was always a cheerful conversation."
Law enforcement officers from around the area came out to show their support for their fallen brother and friend.
"He was a wonderful person. He had a lot of insight. He had a lot of great ideas for the citizens of St. Mary Parish, Morgan City," Chief Lasalle said.
Chief Crouch died last Friday, and many in Morgan City are still in shock after news of the tragedy.
"You know it's a shock. The city is numb right now," Mayor Frank Grizzaffi, Mayor Morgan City, said. "In Morgan City everybody knows everybody so they are taking it pretty hard right now."
City leaders say chief crouch leaves behind a legacy of hard work and committment to the community.
"Chief Crouch was a progressive guy that knew what he wanted and went out and got it you know. Chief Crouch was only chief just under a year, but he had a life time done of work in that short period of time," Mayor Grizzaffi said. "The Morgan City Police Department is better off because of him. "
Chief Crouch worked as a police officer in Morgan City since 1991.
