The Baton Rouge Red Cross chapter is doing what it can to prepare for Karen, no matter where or when the storm hits. Volunteers are getting rounded up, supplies are being loaded and the waiting begins.

Jules Hidalgo has been prepping all morning and is ready to go but this is actually not his first rodeo.

"We've been loading the truck for the last hour or so," noted Hidalgo.

He's ready to head out to lend a helping hand, no matter where he goes and no matter what time.

"We get in the truck and deliver; deliver it wherever they tell us to drop it," he said.

Hundreds are behind this effort. Red Cross volunteers are just waiting for that call to head out; even some people who were just helping with the flooding efforts in Colorado are on their toes.

“Some of them may flip from one disaster immediately into this one,” said Red Cross Spokesperson, Nancy Malone.

Hidalgo says volunteering for the Red Cross has been unlike any other experience in his life.

"The Red Cross has put me through worse than when I was serving in Vietnam,” noted Hidalgo. “I’ve done a lot of crazy stuff in 14 years.”

Red Cross is making sure any place that could be affected is prepared before things get bad.

"We're working with governments right now and parishes to see what their needs are in advance of the storm what specific requests they have," said Malone.

Hidalgo is just one of those people, helping our neighboring parishes prep for Karen.

“I have nothing better to do, I just like doing it.”
