For one family in our area, it's been struggle, after struggle, after struggle. Between a hurricane, a rare disease and now a house fire, they have been through a lot. It would be hard to stay optimistic.

Matthew Faust just had a baby boy 3 weeks ago, now his family of five is left with nothing. But this is not the first time Matt has experienced a major loss. He lost childhood home during Katrina and battled a rare form of cancer. He’s come out stronger and with one of the most optimistic views on life I have ever seen.

It's a sight all too common for Matt Faust, a home destroyed and left in ruins.

"We've been through this before,” said Faust. ‘It's kind of a familiar feeling."

It all happened just a few days ago.

“At the point we pulled up, I knew it was bad so thankfully the kids were sleeping in the car they didn’t have to see it."

But now, it's finally setting in, its time to move forward.

“The rest of it was just insane, I got this feeling of dread I have never really felt before walking around and seeing the house all burnt up like that.”

This was a feeling Matt shared with the world, post Hurricane Katrina.

“This shows what I went through."

He told his story, in a short film, called ‘Home’.

“I realized it was a thing that would mean a lot more to a lot more people," noted Faust.

His childhood home was gone.

"That's the thing I learned in Katrina too is that I thought a lot about what made a home special after that because that was my childhood home where I grew up."

So even though he lost his home once again, a home he built from the ground up, his attitude is unbelievably optimistic and he says there is no other way to look at what life brings.

"Good is going to come of this, I know it."

Matt hopes to rebuild, he also said the community and his family has been more than generous in their time of need

Matt's film home won at the Tribeca film festival and has been shown across the nation.
