BATON ROUG, LA (NBC33) — One of the most recognizable voices in the Baton Rouge radio market, off the air. Scott Innes-the afternoon drive DJ at WYNK radio is given his pink slip today, Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Innes says he was called in several hours before his regular shift and told the company was making changes.
Innes has been on the air at WYNK for 15 years. During that time he's won the Country Music Association's radio personality of the year award and the same award for the Academy of Country Music. He says the toughest part of being suddenly let go is not being able to say goodbye to his listeners.
"I've been blessed to win every award in radio broadcasting,” says Innes. “I've been the voice of two of the most popular cartoon characters of all time. I've helped to raise $10 million for local charities so it's been a blessing. What I'm going to miss the most is the listeners."
Innes says he's not sure what he'll do next but he hopes to stay in Baton Rouge.
A spokesperson for Clear Channel, which owns WYNK, says they are making changes to their programming and realigning their local products and some positions had to be eliminated.
