It was a close call for a family in Baker this afternoon. They had just left their home moments before a plane crashed into the back of their home.

NBC33’s Danielle Grossman spoke to the female homeowner. She tells us she had just left the home with her children to take them to day care. The room where the plane crashed was the “children’s room.”

The woman says she is “shaken up but is covered by insurance.” The home is being considered a total loss.

The King Air 200 plane crashed on Rue Nicole in Baker at roughly 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7. It took off from the Baton Rouge Airport. The pilot, John Fowler of Mississippi, is the only confirmed victim.

Two additional homes sustained damage from the crash. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Officials are asking residents to avoid returning to the area for the remainder of the evening.
