Neighbors fearful after police search for escapee for hours

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A Baton Rouge man is finally behind bars tonight after escaping from police custody in handcuffs and a walking cast this morning. 55 year-old Tommy Depedro Wilson was arrested by police after allegedly burglarizing a home on East Lakeshore. For hours police searched the area around the Second District precinct where Wilson escaped. Police first set up a perimeter around the area of Polk and Nebraska streets to search for Wilson, but then moved their efforts to a nearby apartment complex on Alaska Street for those waiting for Wilson’s re-capture the search of their neighborhood was agonizing. "I've been trying to get away from here. I’ve been trying for the longest. My husband died and I am by myself. It feels scary. I don't know what he done, but it is scary, scary," Irma Mceely, a nearby resident, said. Officials from the Baton Rouge Police Department said there will be an internal investigation in to today's escape. According to court documents Wilson was also convicted of felony theft in 2006, and was sentenced at that time to 10 years.
