Baton Rouge Police tell NBC33 there are two suspects in a drug –related robbery that took place in the Beau Pre subdivision.

One of suspects is in jail, while the other one is in a hospital after he was shot.

Even though they're both in police custody, neighbors still have questions.

Alea Mounger has lived in the subdivision for a year and a half, and she says she's never seen criminal activity.

“You don't really see people walking the street or anything like that - the occasional college party - but it’s always been a really safe area,” stated Mounger.

Safety is the main reason she picked this neighborhood to call home, and that's why the Saturday night shooting is something she never thought she'd see.

“We looked at a lot of other neighborhoods and this one seemed the safest,” said Mounger. “I didn’t believe it at first.”

Baton Rouge Police say Chauncy Carter, 32, and another man set up a drug deal with the people who live here. They were supposed to deliver the drugs, but instead, they tried to rob the people inside the house.

There was a fight, and one of the residents tried to grab Carter’s gun away from him. BRPD investigators say, the gun accidentally fired and one of the alleged robbers was shot. The man who was hit is in critical condition.

Police say Carter loaded his buddy into a car and they drove to Baker. When they arrived in Baker, they called 911 to report they'd been shot in a drive-by shooting.

While some in the neighborhood are still on edge, Mounger says they hope things quickly get back to the quiet as usual they're used to.

The 22-year-old man that tried to break in with carter is still in critical condition. Police say they aren't expecting to make any more arrests in this case.
