A Walker man who was missing for ten days was found dead in St. James Parish. Now, someone is in custody for the second-degree murder of Brandon Parnell.

"But this has taken a tremendous toll on our family," says Parnell’s mother, Cynthia Gill.

Gill never imagined she would have to grieve the death of a child, her only son.

“I wouldn't want anyone to die, but I didn't want to loose my son.”

When she didn't hear from Brandon one day, she knew something was wrong.

“So I rang his phone, rang his phone, rang his phone and it would just go to voicemail," stated Gill.

February 25 was the last time anyone saw Brandon alive. He was with two friends at a bar in Denham Springs called Laguna Beach. One of those friends was Joshua Mitchell, who is now in custody for his murder.

"But he [Mitchell] was pretty much homeless from here to there. It was winter time when I met him,” said Gill. “Brandon brought him in, he seemed like a really nice guy."

An argument over a gun is allegedly what sparked the crime.

“He told her when I go back and find my gun I am going to shoot him in the head and that's exactly what happened."

He was found by a fisherman in St. James Parish on the side of the Blind River, only a few hours after his mother declared him missing.

Brandon was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder, manic depression and schizophrenia.

"That's all he talked about was his son because he looks just like my son and the last time I saw him he was 6 months old," noted Gill.

So now a family will continue to grieve, and a little boy will grow up with only a faint memory of his father.

The Livingston Parish Sheriffs Office first arrested Mitchell for failure to register as a sex offender, and then he confessed to the crime. He's being held on a $500,000 bond. The investigation is still ongoing and Mitchell could face more charges.
