Depression is a serious disease that affects millions of Americans nationwide and there are many effective medications, but some have severe side effects. Now, here in Baton Rouge, there is an alternative, a solution and a cure. It’s called Neurostar. And one local woman’s life has changes completely because of it.

Stephanie Dickhutes' depression has been a part of her life since she can remember. She never slept, had problems taking care of her house, her family and even herself.

"Just having children at all when your depressed it's very hard," said Dickhute.

So she turned to medication, which was promising, but it came with a hefty price.

"You have to decide if you want to be happy or gain weight and the weight gain can cause heath problems, also," noted Dickhute.

But Dr. Imran gave her an alternative.

The Neurostar, only one of three in the state, is a machine which stimulates your frontal cortex with magnets, almost like it's reworking the chemistry in the brain that causes depression.

"It's given me more energy," said Dickhute.

After 20 treatments, Stephanie is a new woman, living a depression-free life and 18 pounds lighter.

Stephanie says she finally feels rested.

"I sleep now; I had years and years of not sleeping."

So with the help of Dr. Zahid Imran, and Neurostar, Stephanie is a testament that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Neurostar is not covered by insurance but studies show the price in the end will be less than medication. And Dr. Zahid Imran has seen a 100 percent success rate thus far.
