Loyal customers vow to support Piccadilly Restaurants during bankruptcy

Most customers of Piccadilly Restaurants have trouble remember exactly how long they have been eating there.

"At least about 23 years," said Linda Fowler

"Probably 15 years," according to Sandra Barker.

"Since I was a teenager," said Jennie Seals, "so 35, 40 years."

Piccadilly is like a family heirloom, passed down from parents to their children. It started in Baton Rouge eight decades ago, and has grown to include 81 locations.

But the company's debt forced it to file for bankruptcy protection last Friday.

Its loyal customers say they will do their best to help each location stay open.

"I wish we had this real big rush of people in Baton Rouge and all over the country," said Seals, "and say 'let's go support Piccadilly, and let's everybody go eat there for a day,' and say 'we're supportive of you' cause they're that great."

The fact that it is a locally-based company matters to Fowler.

"I'm glad to support them instead of just one of the chains," she said.

Now, however, customers and employees alike have to wait out the court process before they know if their favorite location will stay open.

For now, Barker says she and others will keep coming back, because of all the sweet memories Piccadilly has given them.

"I just think everybody thinks it's just like home," she said.
