BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Billboard Art Project has selected Baton Rouge-based artist Christopher Turner to participate in its program. Works from Turner that have been selected are from his “Tranquility and Pure Emotions” collection.
“I'm excited that Baton Rouge, La is represented on a platform such as this" said Turner.
The Billboard Art Project is a nonprofit organization that acquires digital billboards as roadside galleries. Several cities across the nation have signed up to participate in the project since its inception back in 2010. Turner’s work will be featured in New York.
The goal of the Billboard Art Project is to bring original artwork to the masses on the traditional advertising space.
“When you see a billboard that isn’t telling you what to buy or who to trust, it carries the impact of the unexpected,” states the project’s mission statement.
Although the purpose isn’t to necessarily expose the artists as it is give art a new public forum, Turner says he’s thrilled to be part of the movement.
"Over the years I’ve pushed the creative envelope,” he said. “I love this opportunity to put art in a place that you wouldn't think about."
