“This will be a positive impact to all the employees," said Jennifer Meyers, who is an employee in Livingston Parish.

Jennifer Meyers has been with the Parish for only a few months and enjoyed that her insurance was paid for 100 percent, but now the Parish is making all employees 100 percent covered and only 50 percent for spouses and dependants.

"As an employee of course I’m 8 and a half months pregnant so I don't want to loose any insurance benefit but I see it’s a necessary change," noted Meyers.

Parish President Layton Ricks knew the parish needed a change. So they did an analysis across the state to find a good way to change up the insurance plan and pay that would benefit the tax payers and the employees.

"We've been playing with these numbers for quite sometime," said Ricks.

With these savings Livingston Parish will implement a 2 phase system and in the first phase all employees will receive a raise and in the second phase after health care enrollment they will receive a second raise.

And the overall feedback has been positive for most employees, but Ricks knows there will still be some concern until it actually goes into effect.

"All this take affect in January and once they see their checks starting in the beginning of the year they will al settle down and realize in the long run they are going be okay," said Ricks.

And with the concern about the increase in health insurance payments, some Livingston Parish employees, wanted to help even more.

"None of the directors took the raise, we wanted to pass the maximum amount to the employees so all directors agreed to forgo the raise," said Meyers.

When everything is all said and done the Parish will be saving roughly 9 and a half percent. And now along with the immediate raises, employees will be getting annual raises as well.
