LAPLACE, LA (NBC33) — As the waters in St. John Parish slowly recede, those living in the flooded parish are attempting to pick up the pieces of their lives, many of them realizing that will mean starting from scratch. The stories down the line at the Loads of Hope mobile washing station all have a similar ring.
"Here we are, we lost everything, but we know that this too shall pass, we're going to be ok," Karen Robinson Tejada, a LaPlace resident who lost everything, said.
“I need these clothes washed. This is all I have. Everything is mildewed so this is it," Mary Kay Johnson, another LaPlace resident, explained.
Many were forced to leave their homes with nothing as the water, which had never reached their houses before, came up.
