BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — Glenn Ford has enjoyed just a few days of freedom since he walked out of Angola Tuesday, after spending 30 years on death row for a murder he did not commit.
And now attention is on how the state plans to make things right.
Ford will get $250,000 dollars. Some citizens don't think that's enough.
But how do you pay back 30 years behind bars, to someone who shouldn't have been there in the first place?
There's a cap on how much money a wrongfully convicted person gets in Louisiana.
It's $25,000 dollars for every year behind bars.
In ford's case, time served with no cap would be closer to three-quarters of a million bucks.
But some say no money will ever be enough!
New evidence cleared ford of a 1983 murder of a Shreveport area jeweler.
That means the real killer is still out there.
Ford went to jail when his sons were babies, and "they" now have babies of their own.
It's three decades he can never get back.
