Geismar residents concerned by second emergency at Westlake Vinyl
GEIZMAR, LA (NBC33) — People near Westlake Vinyl say they're concerned after yesterday's power outage.
A substance was released from the plant when the outage happened. Although no evacuations were ordered, three workers had to be taken to the hospital.
It’s the second time since March emergency crews were called to the plant.
One person we spoke with today says the nearby sirens didn't sound when they should have.
“We live right under the plant,” Robbin Jackson Jr., Geismar resident, said. “Right down here we should be the first ones to know. The siren should go off, too. But they never go off at the time.”
The department of environmental quality said there was no threat to people in the area following yesterday’s incident.
