ST. FRANCISVILLE, LA (NBC33) — "It's just heartbreaking. We put so much effort into this place for Mother Nature to do this to us," says homeowner Darlene Vanta.
Darlene Vanta is in shock. This, after flash flooding devastated her St. Francisville home around five this morning, but she's just thankful because the situation could have been a lot worse. "My neighbors' dogs were trapped. My husband was trapped inside. They all came out ok," says Vanta.
Just three years ago Hurricane Gustav ripped through her home and today is a painful reminder of what can happen living in south Louisiana.
The Vantas have lived in their home for almost ten years. But with more than 14 inches of rain now inside of it, they just don't know how they can continue to live there anymore,"I'm getting a little bit too old for this. I think we're just going to have to find something else. It's just too hard. I'm hoping we can find something on higher ground somewhere" says Vanta.
Tommy Boyett is the West Feliciana Parish Emergency Management Director. He says until this severe flooding goes down, he has a warning for everyone in the parish,"Don't be riding around and try and stay out of the water. Don't let your kids play in the water and don't drive through the water."
But all Darlene Vanta wants is her house back,"I wish the rain would go away...I'm just ready to get back into my house," says Vanta.
