Kentwood, La (NBC33) — Angie Miller's daughter, Jackie Tate, and three other loved ones survived a tornado, ripping apart their Kentwood home early in the morning while they were all asleep inside of it.
"My daughter called me at five this morning saying momma you won't believe what's happened," stated Miller.
"I really didn't know what to think,” stated Tate. “It just come all of a sudden."
Stephanie Blauvelt was also in the home. "In the middle of the night, 2-2:30 in the morning, (you) get up, you hear winds, ran to the bathroom… kind of got lifted up thrown… and you wake up and you see all the damage."
"The National Weather Service described the tornado that struck the Tates’ home as an EF1 or minor tornado. However, the family says there's nothing minor about the tornado that destroyed the home that they've lived in for the past 20 years.
"I'm feeling terrible. My house is completely destroyed," said Tate.
Jackie Tate is still shaken by what happened, but she knows that the half-mile long tornado could have taken away what she cares about most.
"Thank God we're all still here… my family, that's the most important thing."
"We're lucky to be alive,” stated Blauvelt. “I'm very thankful. I thank God. All day, I've been thanking Him that we're alive - all four of us."
