"He said 'open the door because DeAndre got shot,” Callena Frenics, grandmother to DeAndre Jenkins, said that’s the statement she woke up to on Tuesday night.

Now already a memorial stands at the corner of Scenic Highway and Ellerslie Drive, the corner where police found 21 year-old Jenkins shot twice in the stomach. He’s a man friends and family say was taken before his time.

"It hurts so bad y'all. I just can't handle this y'all. It's too hard on me y'all," Frenics said.

Family and friends describe him as a well-mannered and good-hearted guy, some one they know will be missed around the neighborhood.

"I will miss that smile, and that 'yes ma'am and no ma'am'. How often do a 21 year-old address you as 'yes ma'am and no ma'am' so yeah I will miss that baby's smile,” Treva Lethan, a friend, said.

Just last week, not a block away, a young pregnant woman was shot. Now neighbors are saying it’s time to stop the violence.

“I mean if you look at it, really it's the area that every one has forgotten about. They push us to the side and say 'well let them stay in this area, they don't need help.' But we do,” Lethan said.

" They want to take his life! They need to do something about these children around here killing each other. It's sad y'all. It's really sad," Frenics reflected.

Officers are looking to make an arrest in this case soon, and said it wouldn’t have been possible without all the tips and help from those in the community.
