BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — Local residents gather together Wednesday for a special Thanksgiving celebration. Families Helping Families hosted their fifth annual Thanksgiving dinner for Baton Rouge residents with disabilities. The non-profit organization provides resources for disabled individuals and their families on a day-to-day basis.
Wednesday those families got the chance to get out and connect with each other while enjoying a big feast. It helped a lot of folks really get into the holiday spirit.
"I'm thankful for my family and friends," says Zachary.
"The fact that the guys get to come out, they're excited. They're wonderful. They're happy to be here and I feel good. I'm happy to be here, too," says Elliot Brock with Allied Healthcare.
The organizers of the event say last year they fed almost 400 people during the two hour event. They expected a similar turnout this year.
