Edwards makes first public appearance with fiance
GONZALES, LA (NBC33) — Trina Scott says she became intrigued with former Governor Edwin Edwards when people were talking about his newly released biography. She was living in Alexandria, getting her psychology degree from LSU-A, and decided to get the book.
"I just got such a reaction, just walking around with the book people would come up and have a story to tell and how much they loved him and I just wanted to see what it was all about," Scott told NBC33’s Tammi Arender during their one-on-one interview at the Edwards home.
The 32-year-old started writing Edwards. Then, at his invitation, traveled to Oakdale Federal Prison to visit the four-term Governor.
"I would get there at 8:00 a.m. and leave at 3:00 p.m. [We talked about] everything. We never ran short of conversation," Scott explained.
Scott says she missed only one visitation day since her first trip in early 2010.
"I think that when I first met him I expected him to be like angry, a little bit bitter but he's so positive, so kind and loving just toward everybody,” she added. “I've learned a lot from him he's very positive, he's great."
Scott is now making a home and a future with Edwards in Gonzales. She has 12 and 14-year-old boys. She says they get along great with the 83-year-old Edwards. The biggest adjustment is all the attention from the media and former constituents.
“I'm overwhelmed a little bit but it's fun, people love him."
Scott knows that many people are making a big deal over their age difference, 51 years. On Wednesday, July 13 at 10 p.m., Tammi Arender will have a second special report addressing that part of the story.
