The controversial Clinton Curfew has been extended for an extra two weeks.

When 11:00 rolls around on the streets of Clinton, you better not be caught out. A city-wide curfew originally set to end on July 31 isn't going away.

"I am getting a lot of positive feedback from the community saying they want to keep it in effect," said Police Chief Fred Dunn.

Chief Dunn maintains that the curfew is doing its job as crime continues to fall since it started.

"The crime rate has went down 65 percent, the community is cooperating with us and we're happy that it's working," said Dunn.

More than a month into the lock down, feelings are still mixed.

"Going out to the movies in Baton Rouge and going out to dinner, and you know, having to drive an hour back. There’s times I won't be back by 11:00 and I don't think you should be stopped for that," said Joni Easter, a Clinton resident.

"I do travel during the curfew because I leave early for work. I’ve never had any problems or anything else. I don't think they're going to give problems to anyone who's working or stuff like that. I am fine with it because I do understand what they're trying to do with the people just sitting around," said Doug Hoogie, another Clinton resident.

Some have said they're still in the dark about the rules of the curfew.

"It's not explained, who coming through town is going to be stopped, you know, that kind of stuff," said Easter.

Love it or hate it though it's around for an extra 15 days, and Chief Dunn said if you break curfew you've already been warned.

"I’ve only issued one summons for breaking the curfew order and we've given about six or seven different warnings, but for the most part they're abiding by it," said Dunn.

The curfew was extended through to August 14 by the town board.
