Volunteers teamed up to give a local elementary school's basketball court a makeover.

It was part of a partnership between volunteers in public schools and students and faculty from Howell Park Elementary school. They painted all 50 states on the school's basketball court. It's an event the school's principal says teaches everyone involved the importance of giving back to the community.

"We are just excited because community service is so important and not only that we get to have some exercise which we're really, really targeting it with the Pennington Center this year to make sure we have healthy snacks for kids,” Kandiest Brock, Principal at Howell Park, said. “So it's really a community effort"

The principal went on to say the map will be an important social studies tool for teachers and students.
