BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — It’s National Police Week and last night, Tuesday, May 15, several Baton Rouge cops were recognized for their outstanding achievement and service.
The Chief's Awards are held annually and recognize those officers who went beyond the call of duty.
One of the men in the spotlight was Officer Richard McCloskey who won two medals of valor for his work in curbing crime here in the Capital City. He was injured in the line of duty and took a bullet to the neck.
"You don't think about it at the moment you're in it,” Officer McCloskey, explained. “You're thinking about the guys you are with. And you don't want them to get hurt. You want everybody to go home to their families. So at the time you don't think about it. It’s a big eye opener. Then when you get shot it makes you think about a lot of things as well. You want to go home to your family."
