BATON ROUGE, LA — Baton Rouge Police were called to the 2600 block of Jefferson Ave. where a man was found stabbed to death on his porch. He was found around 6:00 a.m. by his roommate.
"I thought I was dreaming, it reminded me of a Lifetime movie when I pulled up and all the cops were there. I didn't want to believe it."
Demario Dixon woke up to a phone call from a friend right before work but what he heard on the other line was something he never expected.
“I got a phone call from my friend saying my brother was laid out,” Dixon recalled. “He wasn't responding and he thought he was dead."
According to police, Gary Terrel Murphy, 42, was found stabbed a few times in the back and Dixon says he is still in shock from the news.
"My brother is a very nice person. He doesn't really bother anybody. I just don’t understand it, I don't understand why anybody would want to hurt him let alone kill him," said Dixon.
Neighbors Marilyn and Carletta Denby say Murphy had a girlfriend, who they saw over his house recently.
"That's why it’s such a shock to us - if there was anything wrong we didn't know it," they noted. “I believe she was the last person to see him alive,” said Dixon.
Police are still investigating and right now; all Dixon wants are some real answers.
"I would really like to find out what happened, what lead up to this, you know."
Murphy has a daughter who lives in Alexandria. All of his other family members were notified this morning.
