The Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation honored six community leaders with their Angels Award.

The award is given out to volunteers who improve the quality of life for at risk children in Louisiana. Charitable organizations from across the state were honored at the ceremony. One of the honoree's comes from Baton Rouge. It's called David Paul Learning And Community Enrichment Center . The groups founder Lloyd Benson II said the award is a big honor because it helps recognize their mission to help people in the Melrose East or Mall City area.

Benson said, "We've been over there working with the young people working with the young adults there inspiring them to lift themselves out of the situation. Motivate them to want more out of life, pursue higher education."

This is the program's 17th year. Each recipient of the angel award was honored with a $20,0000 grant for their charitable organization.
