BATON ROUGE, LA ( NBC33) — The Baton Rouge concert band gave a free concert to honor the military Monday on the steps of the State Capitol.

This is one of five free performances the volunteer group puts on each year.

One of the musicians, Rick Barrios, is also a veteran. He says he volunteers his talent for this musical tribute as a way to show his appreciation to all veterans.

"It's important to play especially today being Memorial day," said Barrios. "It gives me a chance to remember them and give thanks to them and to honor them."

There will be another patriotic performance by the Baton Rouge concert band on the steps of the capitol the evening of July 4.
