It’s estimated that over half of the kids in Louisiana are obese or overweight. One local family is doing what they can to help fight that statistic.

Shannon Cherry, her daughter Taylor and her son Corbin are organizing a 1K and 5K race to raise awareness for childhood obesity.

“A lot of times children are teased and sometimes they can become suicidal. This is something to make them healthier,” said Shannon Cherry.

“I’ve seen people get picked on and I wish I could have helped,” added Taylor.

The races will be held April 27 at Woodlawn Middle School running trail.
