THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) — It was a day to remember a terrible tragedy. Friends and family of Jori Lirette gathered in Thibodaux today to release balloons in his memory. Last year little Jori, 7, was killed by his father Jeremiah Wright, 30. He is accused of decapitating his son, who had cerebral palsy, and placing parts of his remains outside on the sidewalk.
More than fifty people came out to the neighborhood where Jori once lived to remember him. His mother jesslyn Lirette says “It’s been horrible, really rough. I'm just happy that it hasn't been too much of a struggle because I had my friend and my family to back me up one hundred percent.”
Wright remains behind bars and he is charged with first degree murder. A competency hearing is scheduled for Sept. 21.
