Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The Baton Rouge Police Department are investigating an accidental shooting that killed a teenager over the weekend.

Two teenagers were passing a handgun to one another, when the gun accidentally went off.

Hitting Donta Young, 19, in the chest. Young later died in the hospital.

Baton Rouge Police say it happened around 1:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the 5900 block of Cadillac Street.

Young's neighbor says it's a tragedy that shouldn't have happened.

"Our kids, they think it's a game with these guns, I mean they're serious, stop playing with them, yesterday was a real freak accident that could've been avoided," said Young's neighbor, Justina Douglas.
