NATOMAS (KTXL FOX40) — As Tanishq Abraham explains the Higgs Boson to me, what's surprising me most is how natural it seems coming from his mouth.
At 9 years old, Tanishq is already well on his way to completing a college degree. It will be the first, I'm certain, of many.
"A typical comment is that we are really pushing him," laughed his father Bijou. "He's pushing us."
His mother agreed. The prodigy's parents said they had not intended to home-school Tanishq, but when public schools couldn't keep up with his voracious intellect, they had to give it a try.
"People think we want all these thing, but it's his passion. This is what he loves," mother Taji Abraham said.
And what he loves is learning. It's a love that's often put him at the head of his classes at American River College, and often literally put him in front of those classes too. Tanishq has given guest lectures on everything from paleontology to astronomy.
"I don't mind interacting with other college students," said the 9-year-old. "I like it."
Tanishq says his favorite subjects are the sciences. He learned his letters before some children learn to speak their first words. By age 4 he was inducted into the genius society MENSA. And not soon after, his parents took him out of public school so he could learn at his own pace, even if it was a pace they sometimes struggle to match.
I felt like it was unfair to saddle a 9-year-old kid with questions like, 'what do you want to be when you grow up,' But Tanishq did have this to say about his plans for the future: "Use the knowledge to invent new technologies."
In the meantime his parents are trying to keep up, and to keep life for Tanishq and his sister Tiara as normal as possible.
Oh yeah: Six-year-old Tiara is a certified genius, too.
