Port Allen, La (NBC33) — A Louisiana State Trooper is back home after being grazed by a bullet Wednesday morning - and West Baton Rouge deputies are being credited for saving his life.
It happened just after 2:30 off LA-1 in Port Allen. State Police say Senior Tropper Kevin Biddy had 20 year old William Belniak of Connecticut for drunk driving.
We're told after a quick scuffle - Belniak shot the trooper in the head.
West Baton Rouge deputies raced to the scene. We're told they found Belniak standing over the trooper ready to shoot again.
That's when Sheriff Mike Cazes says they took control of the situation before things got worse.
"Thank God we had the same radios and we all talk together and my guys were able to be there and save this troopers life", says Cazes.
Biddy was released from the hosiptal. Belniak is still in critical condition. He's facing a list of charges including attempted murder of a Police Officer and DWI.
