BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – Sharon Hills Elementary received a new playground March 12, thanks to volunteers from Foresters, a life insurance provider, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools and non-profit organization KaBOOM!

The new playground will serve 4,500 children and their families in the Baton Rouge community for years to come. Planning for the playground began at a Design Day event held in January when local children and community leaders met with organizers from KaBOOM! and Foresters to design their dream playground. The children's drawings were then used to create the final playground design.

Kasia Czarski, Foresters Chief Membership and Marketing Officer, stated, “Playgrounds are an ideal place for families to get to know other families and build strong communities. This new playground at Sharon Hills Elementary will provide opportunities families to spend quality time together for years to come.”

In less than eight hours, the playground was built by hundreds of volunteers from Foresters, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools and the surrounding community. In addition, children and families spent the day playing games and participating in arts and crafts activities.

“For the first time, our school and our community have an area that is safe and family-oriented,” said Dawn Hayward, Principal of Sharon Hills Elementary School. “The entire community is grateful for this new playground. It is beautiful, and it makes our school a great place to learn and play.”
