Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced Tuesday several more parish roads in the northeast part of the parish have been barricaded due to backwater flooding near the Amite River.

Parish department of public works officials said crews are monitoring roads along Bayou Manchac and the Amite River and have put up barricades at Airport Drive, Kay Drive, Idle Hour Road, Summerfield South Road and Lake Street.

According to the National Weather Service website as of 12:15 p.m., Tuesday, the Amite River at Port Vincent gauge measured 5.39 feet and falling. Flood stage at that location is 8 feet.

Crews will continue monitoring the roads for possible backwater flooding, said Assistant Department of Public Works Director Johnny Richardson.
