SLIDELL, La (WVLA) The Slidell Sheriff’s Office closed a cold case today with the arrest of New Orleans resident, Yosvani Harvey, 21.
The case involved the June 20, 2008 murder of Nathaniel “Nate” Mills, who was shot just after 9 p.m. on that date at the Unfadable Barber and Beauty Shop in Slidell. Mills, who was an employee, was closing the shop for the evening. When deputies responded, Mills was found on the floor of the shop with multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses near the scene reported seeing a suspicious maroon colored sedan behind the barber shop the night of the murder. This was the only information they had to work with at the time of the initial investigation.
Through dozens of interviews, investigators were able to determine that the murder was the result of a botched robbery attempt. Several names emerged as possible suspects, but one consistently remained on their list, “Smokie.”
Investigators discovered that someone by that nickname was a suspect in a previous case and were able to determine his real name, Yosvani Harvey, 21. Harvey lived on the northshore at the time of the murder, but moved to New Orleans East in the months following the incident.
Harvey was was transported last Friday to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where he is booked on one count of first degree murder. Yesterday he was transported back to the Orleans Parish Prison, where he still awaits trial on the gun charges.
Investigators are still looking into the possibility of Harvey having accomplices in the murder and more arrests may be forthcoming.
