Two car crash results in one death
HAMMOND, La (WVLA) – Failure to yield at a stop sign and not wearing a seatbelt sent one woman to jail and the death of the other.
Yesterday evening at 6:27 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 1040 (Old Baton Rouge Highway) at the intersection with N. Billville Road in Tangipahoa Parish.
Leanne Keen, 18, of Ponchatoula, LA, failed to yield at a stop sign on N. Billville Road and struck a car driven by Kimberly Hadden, 43, of Hammond, LA. After impact, Hadden ran off the road, entered a ditch, and overturned before coming to rest on the north side of the roadway.
Hadden was not wearing a seatbelt and received fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.
Keen was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to North Oaks Medical Center with minor injuries.
Upon release from the hospital, Keen was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail charged with Failure to Yield at a Stop Sign and Negligent Homicide.
The Louisiana State Police Troop L say alcohol use is not suspected by either individual, but blood sample work is pending at the Louisiana State Crime Lab.
