Tuition hikes to come for LSU
Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — More tuition hikes could be on the way for higher education, and LSU leaders support it.
Governor Bobby Jindal plans to propose a plan that would allow colleges to raise tuition a second time in this year's legislative session.
Last year -- the LA Grad Act allowed LSU to increase tuition by 10%, which will go into effect next year.
LSU leaders say raising the price to attend the flagship university will actually save students in the long run.
"If we are forced to do budget cuts to eliminate sections and programs, students will have to stay here longer to get a bachelor’s degree and that's very expensive," Michael Martin, LSU Chancellor.
Martin says he expects tuition to go up even more in the coming years, but he hopes it will be a gradual process.
